Simplify Your Glove Construction Without Sacrificing Performance and Quality

Hand protection for tough jobs and activities is essential – but features for a cut-resistant material can come at the cost of comfort and dexterity.

Adding glass or steel to glove material, or packing gloves with a comfort liner, increases protection, but typically decreases overall freedom of hand movement. In industries like construction, mining, manufacturing, utilities, and tactical operations – or for rugged activities like motocross – dexterity isn’t negotiable.

If your brand’s gloves are too stiff or bulky to allow easy movement, it can be a deal-breaker – and even though consumers might accept a little discomfort in the name of safety, they shouldn’t have to.

In this post, we’ll detail Cutora™, a cut-resistant material that provides maximum protection – and everything else your customers want.

Don’t Cut the Comfort & Dexterity

We know making a glove that can stand up to a knife-sharp edge requires a tough material and tough glove construction. However, just like a bulky snowsuit, movement can be drastically restricted the more padding you add.

Cutora, a patent-pending cut-resistant material, simplifies glove construction by combining a palm suede and cut fabric into one streamlined solution.

  • The palm suede provides durability, breathability, and a comfortable feel
  • The cut fabric is designed to resist being cut or slashed, adding critical protection and safety

Cutora’s cut fabric is made using advanced and proprietary High-Performance Polyethylene (HPPE) technology, a lightweight, flexible material that eliminates the need for glass or steel infusions, therefore allowing for a softer, more comfortable glove.

While some gloves include an interior lining or “core” for added comfort, these linings can break down over time with continued glove use, creating irritation and discomfort for the wearer. Cutora uses coreless technology, delivering maximum comfort without the need for an additional lining.

Taking on the Toughest, Most Rugged Uses

Cutora is an ideal material solution for gloves that are used for hand safety and protection from sharp tools, surfaces, and hazards commonly found in the following industries and applications:

  • Construction: Utility knives, saw blades, sheet metal, rebar wire, nails, and sharp-edged building materials.
  • Manufacturing: Blades, metal edges, cutting equipment, and machinery in manufacturing facilities and industrial work areas.
  • Mining: Handling rocks, tools, machinery with sharp edges, or potentially dangerous materials.
  • Motorcycle / Motocross: Cuts, gravel rash, or friction burns that can occur during a crash or from flying debris on a road or track.
  • Oil & Gas: Pipe edges, tools, and rugged equipment from oil and gas environments, as well as the risk of cuts, lacerations, chemical exposures, and infections.
  • Tactical: Cuts or lacerations from blades, sharp debris, and environmental hazards, with the dexterity needed to focus on the mission at hand.
  • Utilities: Utility knives, wire cutters, cables, and sharp hardware used in electrical, water, and telecom work.

Individuals in these and other industries rely on a high-quality glove for essential hand protection in high-pressure, often dangerous situations where there can be sudden, unexpected, or life-threatening changes.

Additionally, there are likely compliance requirements for cut-resistant gloves to be worn while on the job; glove brands can empower their customers to meet compliance by providing advanced cut-resistant material technology.

Cutora, Two Ways

Cutora also offers exceptional durability, excellent grip, and touchscreen capability.

Brands looking to integrate advanced cut resistance into their glove lines have two options for material type:

  1. Cutora A5 + Connect 1.15mm is tested to the European Norms safety standard (EN388) for cut, abrasion, tear, and puncture protection and the American National Standards Institute and International Safety Equipment Association standards (ANSI/ISEA 105-2016) for cut and abrasion protection.
    1. Powered by AX Connect for touchscreen compatibility
    2. Flexible 1.15mm design to preserve dexterity
  2. Cutora A6 Plus 1.70mm is also tested to the  European Norms safety standard (EN388) for cut, abrasion, tear, and puncture protection and the American National Standards Institute and International Safety Equipment Association standards (ANSI/ISEA 105-2016) for cut and abrasion protection.
    1. Addresses higher cut and abrasion protection needs with a 1.70mm design

Cutora is made using solution-dyed yarn, which offers superior color retention as the color is embedded within the fiber. Gloves made with solution dyed yarns won’t succumb to UV fade or shade changes and will remain uniform and high-quality.

Unlike traditional dyeing methods, solution dye processes are friendlier to the environment, requiring less energy, chemicals, and water.

Safety and Protection Without Sacrifice

Comfort sometimes takes a backseat to functionality, but today’s consumers are no longer willing to make that sacrifice, especially with products they use every day. If your brand isn’t providing a comfortable experience in addition to safety and protection, your customers will move to a company that does.

Plus, Cutora’s construction allows glove factories to reduce manufacturing steps, processes, and time, resulting in an overall cost savings.

Traditional glove construction for a cut suede palm comprises three separate materials (comfort lining, cut fabric, outer suede)  – each typically sourced from three different suppliers – that must be combined using lamination or stitching.

Conversely, Cutora provides a single material, reducing manufacturing time and materials and, ultimately, the cost of the glove.

Consider integrating Cutora into your glove line for a best-in-class material. You’ll be able to offer your customers exceptional safety and protection as well as comfort, dexterity, and performance. These qualities are simply not mutually exclusive when it comes to a hard day on the job.
